Back to cities

A progressive city on the Halifax River, the city of South Daytona was once known as the Town of Blake. Blake was annexed into Daytona in 1926 and later separated from its neighbor to the north to become the town known as South Daytona in 1938. Builders and developers soon became interested in the area, and South Daytona began to grow. By then, South Daytona was in a position to get financial assistance from the federal government for expansion of utilities, streets, etc.

South Daytona has operated under a Council/Manager form of government since 1980, with the Mayor and 4 council members serving staggered 4 year terms beginning in 1990. The population has grown to approximately 14,000 people and the city encompasses 4 square miles. There are roughly 45 miles of roads, 40 miles of sewer lines and 55 miles of water lines. The average elevation is 6.5 feet above sea level.

Considered the hub of the Halifax, South Daytona has an elementary school and an excellent private school called Warner Christian Academy which teaches first through twelfth grades. The city has 9 parks, 4 ball fields and approximately 1400 businesses.

South Daytona is proud of its small town atmosphere.
